These loaves were such an answer to prayer. I was desiring a rich and melting center in my mini-loaves that were soft and spongy, moist, with a good crumb.

What I like about making bread this way is that you have a lot of crust to eat as opposed to sandwich-type of loaves. It makes it great for quick bites with some yummy organic butter or fresh good quality butter.

We have a lot of photos from days of baking using various organic grains such as hard red winter wheat, spelt, and barley. I also took some short video clips to remember the process.

I liked the recipe so much that I experimented with it and used it for pizza dough. It worked out really well! Since it was so easy to put together I decided that it was a good recipe to use for the cooking show that may air this April.

An Open Door

You never know what type of opportunity the Lord will bring your way until you ask. We prayed for a way to be able to share hundreds of Gospel tracts in the short period of time that we would be living here. He made a way!

So long as we attached labels identifying where the gifts were from, they would not only allow us to share the Gospel tracts but also help us distribute them by providing their place as a pick-up point of needy people. Not only did we not need to be there to hand them out but they would use their personnel to assist in that manner! What a great opportunity it was to reach out to needy people during this season and give them one of the greatest gifts of all — the message and hope in our Saviour Jesus Christ!

More Ways than One

We have been so excited about the tracts from Living Waters ever since we learned about their ministry and the effectiveness of them. It’s amazing how much people can see their need for a Saviour when they see how they fall short in the light of the Law.

There are various types of tracts that cover God’s amazing Creation as well as use illusions to show how we can be easily deceived. These tracts are so good that people have even asked us for more! At one point, I ran out of a specific type of tract while trying to give enough of a particular one everyone was interested in! Another time, a lady came up to me and asked me if we had any more so that she could give it to her co-workers. We were so thankful we had our tract wallet with us and were able to do that!

The Value of Human Life

The 180 Movie that the ministry provides for very little money not only has a powerful message illustrating God’s value on human life but also presents people the Gospel message through various encounters with individuals. The van is almost empty.

It’s Him!

As we were driving back home from our Thanksgiving (story here and here) celebration, we spotted the man we had seen walking many times in the morning and afternoons. What intrigued us the most was that he would walk along the side of the road as his two tame dogs sat on the back of the walking caribou. It’s a sight you have to witness for yourself.

I always wanted to take a picture of the dogs and the caribou but I couldn’t lift my camera up in time. This time we could turn back and we did!

I walked a ways away and wanted to make sure it was okay if we could take a photo of his animals. He was so happy to be able to pose for us. You could tell that he enjoyed it very much. He told me that there were other photos and video clips somewhere online by some other people. I could believe him.

He saw that I had children in the car and encouraged them to get down to get a photo. Tim agreed and the children were excited to get down. The roads were quite busy so we tried to steer them away.

When I was done taking some photos of the children with the caribou and dogs, he offered to take our photo. It’s so neat that this is so typical of friendly islanders from Saipan and Guam and the Marianas in general. They love to offer to take your family photo so that you too could have a memory of the photographer. I gladly accepted.

Sharing the Good News of the Savior

Then we got in the car and Tim got down. He wanted to share a Gospel tract with the kind man. The Gospel illusion tract from Living Waters is one of our favorite ones to give away. Some times people want more. Some times people treat it like it’s a precious gift and they can’t believe we’re giving it to them. We tell them that we buy it to give away to people like them.

The man was absolutely amazed at how quickly the shapes of the tracts seemed to change before his eyes. First he went from deep concentration to amazement, and then to laughter. He thought it was that good.

He was so excited to accept the tracts. He even asked Tim to demonstrate it a number of times just so that he could share it to others!

Time to Leave

It was time to go and my husband left him with a little gift for his kindness to our family. He didn’t want to accept it. Tim told him that he was always giving others gifts of his time and we would like him to have it.

Then he offered to walk to a nearby field or parking lot so that he could give our children caribou rides like he does for the children of Guam on the weekends and special events. How very sweet! We told him that we would love to but we would try to do that another time since the baby was needing to get home to nurse again. He understood.

He invited us to an event on the Naval Base where he was going to be giving the children free caribou rides. We told him we would love to try to make it to that!

So Thankful

Our day turned out better than we had planned! It was a joy to see what God had in store for us that day — all the special people, treats, offers, and time well spent.

We were at awe at the many people we got to share Gospel tracts with that day. We were also so amazed at the enthusiasm of all the recipients! There have been some moments when people were not receptive to accepting it but for the most part many people are more than excited to getting them. We praise the Lord for that!

His Plans Not Ours

We normally stay home or travel to family member’s homes to thank the Lord and celebrate Thanksgiving together. This time we thought we could do something different especially since we lived overseas.

After praying and considering about it, we had signed up early for the Thanksgiving event sponsored by the Guam USO. We were looking forward to going there and being a blessing to those military members who were without family here.

While for the most part, we as a group were all far away from our loved ones in the states and elsewhere, we were encouraged that we had each other.

When we arrived there on time the place was packed and parking was hard to find. Groups of people lined up, signed in, and went inside only to come back out within minutes if not less.

It was our turn. We got our hands stamped and were ready to go inside the main room. Tim tried to secure a table with some of the children while I waited. Then he came back out. He said that the room was filled to the doors and people were also standing inside.

So we joined other groups of families and singles outside in the hallway. We also saw some people that we knew who were days away from flying out to another job location.

The wait wasn’t that bad. We went to the lobby and sat and spent time with each other. They were running late and encouraged us to go downstairs to the dessert section.

We did go downstairs and the desserts looked delicious but we wanted to hold off for food first lest we feel sick. By the time we went back to the lobby area our little baby was ready for his meal time — a good nursing.

It was getting pretty late and we had some other sweet children who were getting hungry. No one was sure exactly when they’d start eating, so we came up with a Plan B. Tim made some phone calls and checked around for prices and availability.

It didn’t have to be a Thanksgiving meal and we were thankful to eat anything. Because of food allergy issues and budget constraints, we went to our good fallback place — Hyatt Regency Guam’s Lounge.

Lunch or Dinner

Hyatt was serving their beautiful Thanksgiving meal in their restaurant La Mirenda. A few guests might have used the Lounge as a spill over area from the restaurant because of the dishes they were eating.

They were very busy and so we waited a while to be served. It was fine with us especially since we were thankful to be able to eat anywhere that would serve us without prior reservations.

We ordered our favorite Angus burgers and changed the fries to our usual salad with Japanese dressing or balsamic vinaigrette dressing and changed the white buns to our usual wheat or multi-grain bread slices. It was nice to use our discount card to get an additional savings but it has also been great that they’ve given an automatic discount to military personnel.

As usual, many Hyatt staff members came over to greet us and find out if we were being assisted especially our favorite chef — Executive Chef Josef Budde.

The waitress gave us a complimentary basket of wheat dinner rolls. Chef Budde and one of the food managers asked us if we would like some pizza from their Italian restaurant Al Dente and we said, “Sure!”

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was light and calming. Then one of the restaurant staff members surprised us with some dessert plates of their specialty desserts that day from the hotel. The children enjoyed taking a bite of some special treats and they certainly made our family feel special.

Even though we had planned on trying to take our own family photo with our tripod, we were so glad that our waitress offered to take one of us together.

Afterwards we went on a walk with the children to their garden area and fish pools. It was a nice time to get fresh air.

Before we left we were able to share some tracts from Living Waters with one of the wait staff and they loved it.

Is it Really Him?

As we were driving back home, we passed some beautiful ocean waves and sunlight hitting the sand and water. I took some pictures and we proceeded to drive.

Then we saw a man walking with his caribou on the side of the road.

The Lord opened up more opportunities for us to get the Gospel message out during this time and we are excited about the possibilities!

Friday Here and Thursday There

While everyone is still celebrating Thanksgiving in the U.S.mainland (aka “the states”), we here on Guam are reminiscing yesterday’s special Thursday.

It was beautiful and tropical, sunny and full of life.  We were blessed to have each other and most of all to have the blessings of our wonderful Creator.  We loved spending those special moments together as a family and continuously seeing God’s hand in our lives, even on that one day.

Our Plans or His Plans

We kept a lot of things a secret for what we would like to try to attempt to do on Thursday. With five young children (one being an infant) our plans can quickly change due to many circumstances. We’re adaptable and flexible and it’s all part of the fun.

It is because of those reasons that you’ll often hear us say on a daily basis “Lord willing.” We cannot make promises but will do our best. We’d like to play outside but it may rain. And rain it does on Guam especially at this time of the year!

Surprises

So we told the children we wanted to try to take another family photo again using our tripod and digital camera. That didn’t quite work out as you’ll find out later. We also told them that we may go somewhere for lunch. We had made reservations a few days ago for a free complimentary meal at the USO.

We thought that it would be something special for the children especially since all of us are far away from our extended family members. We also wanted to be a blessing to those around us, especially the single service members. That plan didn’t come into it’s full completion either but we did make it — sort of. I’ll explain more of that soon.

Is That a Fast Car?

While I was cleaning Noah came into the kitchen with one of his Hot Wheels cars. I asked him, “Noah, is that a fast car?!”

Noah said, “Yes, it’s a FAST car!”

Was That Wise?

After I said that, I thought, why am I encouraging my little boy to love fast cars? When I was growing up, I liked fast cars, but soon realized that safe cars were much more desirable after I witnessed some terrible accidents as a result of recklessly driving “fast” cars.

It seemed much wiser to encourage my little boy to value safe cars rather than the vanity of a fast car. I then said, “Noah, is that a SAFE car?” I made sure he saw and heard my excitement.

Is That a Safe Car?

He then started running around the kitchen and dining room area with his car exclaiming, “It’s a SAFE car! It’s a SAFE car!”

Be Courageous

It’s absolutely imperative that fathers teach their children correct values and forsake the vanity that our society teaches. I encourage you, fathers, to be courageous enough to really think about what you teach your children even through the seemingly insignificant moments.

The Lord brought the Myers family into our lives in an amazing way. Though we had no filming or audio recording experience we offered to help them share their beautiful Christ-honoring work.

Since then, we’ve helped them film a Creation Camp Days DVD, a character-based cd, as well as a cd of Isaac Watts hymns that leads from Jesus birth to His death.
